Nervous System Support

Nervous System Support

The nervous system is your body’s communication channel.  The nerves send and receive messages that allow you to think, feel, process sensory information, and control movement.  The nervous system is also responsible for emotions. Learning to manage negative emotions can help balance the nervous system.  Essential oils can help calm the body, generate a positive mood, and support a healthy nervous system.

The nervous system is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and a complex pathway of nerves throughout the body. In addition to generating thoughts and feelings, the nervous system processes information supplied by the senses, regulates involuntary body processes, and allows the brain to control movements of the body.

The nervous system is delicate and can be easily upset.  Essential oils can support a healthy nervous system.  Imbalance of the nervous system can contribute to head tension, discomfort, feelings of anxiousness or stress, and many other daily struggles.

There are many parts of the nervous system.  The central nervous system consists of the brain and spinal cord.  This part of the nervous system receives information from your senses, stores memories, and generates thoughts and emotions. When you have a prevalence of peaceful, happy thoughts, you have a greater sense of possibility and happiness.  There are many essential oils that can be uplifting and encouraging, such as mint and citrus oils, and that help you stay grounded.

When stress and tension seem to be relentless, Adaptiv Calming Blend is the precise solution.  Use Adaptiv to help get comfortable with new surroundings or situations.  In preliminary studies, the scent of Lavender, a main ingredient of Adaptiv, has been found to contribute to an environment conducive to performing tasks requiring sustained attention. Lavender, Magnolia, Neroli, and Sweetgum provide stress-relieving effects while Wild Orange and Spearmint energize and uplift.  Copaiba and Rosemary soothe anxious feelings to round out the calming blend.

Whether you’re feeling fatigued or restless, indecisive or irritable, Adaptiv Calming Blend is part of the toolbox to help the body and mind to stay balanced.  Use Adaptiv Calming Blend in combination with the Adaptiv capsules for synergistic results.

Essential Oils and Memory

Memories are made in a part of the brain called the hippocampus.  Memories that are accompanied by external stimuli such as emotions or scents are typically easier to recall.  That’s why certain scents can instantly conjure memories and even help you recall additional details. You might have memories connected to the smell of salty sea air, the earthy scent of a forest, or the citrusy aroma of a tangerine.

Essential Oils for Mental Clarity

There are two main types of memory—short-term and long-term. Short-term memory is made up of the information you are currently using, like what someone just said to you in a conversation. Essential oils known to support a sense of sharp focus include Rosemary, Marjoram, Frankincense, and citrus oils of all kind. Other doTERRA products that support a sense of mental clarity include InTune, xEO Mega, and DDR Prime.

Supporting Long-Term Memory

Long-term memory is made up of short-term memories that have been stored for recollection. These types of memories are more easily recalled when accompanied by external stimuli, like smells or images. Using essential oils of any kind during the memory-making period (such as while studying) can help support long-term memory. Some favorites include Peppermint, Wild Orange, InTune, and Frankincense. Taking an omega supplement like xEO Mega is also beneficial, as omega fatty acids support memory and cognitive health.

The autonomic nervous system regulates functions you do not consciously control, such as heart rate, immune secretions, breathing, and blood pressure. Various stress related conditions are associated with elevated measurements of these vitals.  The AromaTouch Technique is designed to bring alignment and peace to the whole body by affecting the autonomic nervous system.  Some essential oils traditionally used to balance or calm the nervous system include Lavender, Bergamot, Cilantro, Frankincense, Roman Chamomile, Rose, Basil, Copaiba, Vetiver, and Wild Orange.
